Victories have been few and far between for the Ravens this year but the last two have proven to be very costly. After losing Steve Smith, Sr. for the year against the San Diego Chargers, the Ravens lost both running back Justin Forsett and quarterback Joe Flacco in a 16-13 comeback win over the St. Louis Rams.

Forsett fell awkwardly on his arm early in the game and broke it. Even thought it seemed like Forsett was having a rough year after getting an extension in the offseason, he went into the game No. 10 in rushing yards. Now, it’s going to be Buck Allen and former Towson star Terrance West getting a lot of looks, because that is really all the team has.

On the final drive of the game Flacco attempted a crossing route to Chris Givens and that is when he tore multiple ligaments in his knee. Somehow the most durable quarterback in the league since he entered it in 2008 finished the game and the Ravens kicked the game-winning field goal, but he is done.

It’s been that kind of year for the Ravens. They are the most injured team in the league. Forsett and Flacco join Smith, Terrell Suggs, Jeremy Zuttah, Lorenzo Taliaferro, Michael Campanaro, Will Davis, Matt Elam, Asa Jackson, Breshad Perriman, Darren Waller, and others, on injured reserve.

Eugene Monroe was also injured against the St. Louis Rams but the severity is still not known.

With Flacco’s injury, Matt Schaub will start the next game for the Ravens, becoming the first quarterback to start a game for the team other than Flacco since 2007. The Ravens will have to work out another quarterback and sign them since Schaub is the only quarterback currently on the roster.

Before the season the Ravens were thought to have the best roster in the NFL. It did not turn out to be the best roster in the NFL even when healthy but the injury bug has killed the team and any chance at a turnaround.

At least young guys are getting necessary time to help their development. But there are not too many shining moments to look at from this season.
